about kindred

KINDRED ARTS is a cultural equity initiative that conceives of and produces public art interventions and community programs in public spaces.

Programs that celebrate multicultural tradition and histories, that commemorate the diverse heritage of public spaces, and which contribute objects to the public realm that tell a more honest and representative story of our shared history.

We are guided by the following beliefs: art is a catalyst for civic dialogue; art is a vehicle for communities to express identity; art is a tool with which to forge a sense of space and place.

Kindred Arts has a nine-year history of building cultural community and arts enrichment programs in public spaces. In collaboration with local governance, arts institutions, and grassroots organizations.  Our keystone program is the Monumental Tour, a traveling sculpture exhibition that to date has mounted in 11 US cities.

By erecting new temporary monuments that tell a more honest and representative story of our shared history, the Tour and its accompanying public programs seek to challenge prevailing master narratives and spark civic dialogue about the act of memorialization, with the ultimate goal of debunking falsehoods and misperceptions within public memory, and igniting transformation in the commemorative landscape of each city it inhabits.
